I woke up with The Zombies’ This Will Be Our Year singing in my head. It’s now 7:14. I will have listened to Odyssey and Oracle twice by the time I’m done writing. Care Of Cell 44 is such a beautiful opener and sentiment… a love song to the incarcerated one they miss and can’t wait to see again. I listened to a lot of Zombies in the early 2000’s midst of an ill-fitted Merc suit Mod revival. The link between The Creation & The Kinks to The Jam to even Nation Of Ulysses made a lot of sense to me. Life was simpler and sadder and I had no feelings and too many at the same time. How does it feel to feel?
I was thinking of an early AN tour, probably 2002, maybe 2003 . We had a day off in New Orleans and found a mod & soul night to go to. It was in an old theater. The music was great. It was not well attended but Ray Davies of The Kinks was there. I just second guessed myself if that could be true and looked him up, and apparently he was shot in the leg in New Orleans in 2004… so yes, my memory was correct. Now I’m listening to The Kinks in headphones.
