Ron S. Peno passed away quietly and I saw not enough mentions of this loss. A brilliant Australian songwriter formerly of the band Died Pretty whose solo work echoes the inherent built-in dark and reverb-drenched, city-cowboy-country blues also found in Crime & The City Solution and early Nick Cave / Birthday Party material. Even The Dead C has that humidity built in. Something specific in that side of the Pacific... Here are two songs of his I think you would love and should check out in honor of his passing:
It’s been a minute since I’ve rambled on. It’s 4am and pre-coffee because I haven’t sorted that out yet and I’m still on NYC time but in LA, falling asleep too early and waking the same. We were there so Rainer could attend classes at the Lee Strasberg Institute, which went well for him. I didn't care much for NY until the end of the trip, naturally, but that was just because anything I cared for there had shriveled up and marched on to adulthood, retirement, suburbia, graveyard. But walking miles upon miles in NY is just different than here and it is one of my great joys, through humidity and trash and dreams coming up and going down. Beautiful lightning storms and endless disincentive stimulation and I miss it right now.
